Thank you Bellingen! It was such a treat to be invited back again by @spiky_petals and the wonderful rope community growing in the Bellingen/Coffs area. Sadly, our Dojo’s Master Rigger @shanethebodywhisperer could not be there, however I took along a very capable assistant in the form of the one and only @finch.emily and in a short span we managed to pull of 2.5 AMAZING rope sessions and a wonderful Shibari workshop in between. As we had so many people with varying degrees of skill and experience, towards the end I decided to continue the deep dive into exploring the fisherman’s (basket) chest harness, as it is a beautiful tie with something for everyone. This little movie shows the culmination of the class and the demonstration of some of it’s potential for suspension. I had the most delightful bunny to work with - incredibly receptive to rope, highly in tune with her body and loving every moment. We’ve been exploring the versatile and very supportive Fisherman’s Basket tie in class the last 2 weeks. @tali_zer says she’s a fan - you can tell by the huge grin! 😁 We absolutely LOVE having these two in class. A very Halloween-appropriate Spider Web tie, from a recent class in our Lismore Shibari dojo. We love this type of tie as it is so spontaneous and free-flowing, never the same twice. I recall our sensei @123avalon teaching us how, in fact, no Shibari tie should be perfectly symmetrical, as no human body is, and in Japan it is the beauty of asymmetry that is highly valued and appreciated. It’s the difference between looking out at a plantation, with straight rows of regularly spaced trees, compared to looking out at the wild abandon of a forest or jungle. Additionally, when less thought is required for patterns and structure, this attention can instead be focused on your rope partner, enhancing their experience and your connection with them. Hi everyone, Just a few updates for y’all. Shane and I are currently in Adelaide helping to ease Shane’s beloved mum with her departed from Earth. That coupled with the recent loss of my own beautiful stepmum means we are stripping classes back further to just Wednesdays in Lismore at 5.30pm for the time being. Many of you are asking about when we will be resuming Byron classes, and we so appreciate your patience and understanding - we do intend to resume classes in Byron, which will most likely be monthly rather than weekly. Teaching the #spiderweb tie at our Byron Bay rope dojo. This tie is wonderful for beginners because it’s so organic; less emphasis needs to be on the more technical aspects of a structured pattern, and therefore more attention can be given to the bunny or 𝘜𝘬𝘦𝘵𝘦 (one receiving); there’s greater potential to practice laying the ropes with more presence. For our second workshop, after our Intro to Conscious K!nk, we will be bringing to you - FORMING BONDS: CONNECTIONS THROUGH ROPE Discover a new way to deeply connect through this intimate exchange of power and trust; learn to quieten the mind through true surrender. Bonnie & Shane (aka Eros & Psyche) will take you through the fundamentals of Shibari/Kinbaku, beginning with the history and evolution of this ancient Japanese art, and it’s influence on modern day Shibari; through to setting up a safe container in which one can take another on a profoundly connective and sensual journey with a few simple knots. We will discuss the different reasons people tie and the multitude of applications of the dynamic medium of rope. You will learn about different types of rope, safety measures, and ways to enhance your rope experience. You will have the opportunity to discover both sides of rope, as a Bakushi or rigger (one who ties), and an Ukete or model/bunny (one who receives). You will experience a flavour of Shibari that has been blended seamlessly with the fundamentals of Tantra, where consent and safety are paramount, to bring connection and intimacy to new heights. In this workshop you will learn how to navigate subspace; that beautiful dream-like state which, paradoxically, can be hyper-aware. When a Rigger is able to craft an experience, creating a space in which their partner feels safe and held enough to journey through and plumb the depths of their own being. For our first workshop, Shane and I will be dropping into our alter egos of Eros and Psyche to bring to you - INTRODUCTION TO CONSCIOUS K!NK We will open the dungeon doors to the vast world of conscious k!nk play. This will be aimed at beginners but will have something for people of all experience levels. We will cover the fundamentals, including safety and consent, as they are paramount in the world of Conscious K!nk. This will include, how to set up a nest and create a safe container in which the players will have the freedom to explore themselves and each other’s fantasies, desires, edges and curiosities in a healthy way. We will look at BDSM and the deliciousness of power play, including the sacredness of submission and divinity in dominance, each in honour and servitude of the other. There will be a demonstration of a sensory play scene, including guidance on safe impact play, after which participants will have the opportunity to create their own scenes. Some sensory toys and tools will be provided for this, however participants are also encouraged to bring their own if possible. Be creative! This could be a feather, a scarf, a hairbrush, a fork… Please also bring a sarong / mat / cushions if you can to make your nest. A snapshot from our workshop “Healthy Nonmonogamy & Multi-Partner Play” at the @tropicalfruitsinc Bush Magick NYE festival. @shanethebodywhisperer and I managed to pack SO much in, from the fundamentals of ethical polyamory & how to write up relationship agreements, to the different types of non-monogamy, to the Wheel of Consent & how to have an RBDSM discussion. We finished up with some Tantric touch exercises. It flowed very organically into our Shibari workshop, which people were lining up for! It all went so well and we got heaps of great feedback! We are so excited to be heading off to Taste Of Love Tantra Festival tomorrow! Our workshop at @tasteoflovetantra this Sunday is called- “Forming Bonds: Connection Through Rope” Discover a new way to deeply connect through this intimate exchange of power and trust; learn to quieten the mind through true surrender. Bonnie and Shane will take you through the fundamentals of Shibari/Kinbaku, beginning with the history and evolution of this ancient Japanese art form, and it’s influence on modern day Shibari; through to setting up a safe container in which one can take another on a profoundly connective and sensual journey with a few simple knots. We will discuss the different reasons people tie and the multitude of applications of the dynamic medium of rope. You will learn about different types of rope, safety precautions, and ways to enhance your rope experience. You will have the opportunity to discover what rope feels like, from both sides, as a Bakushi or rigger (one who ties), and an Ukete or model/bunny (one who receives). You will experience a flavour of Shibari that has been blended seamlessly with the fundamentals of Tantra, where consent and safety are paramount, to bring connection and intimacy with your partner to new heights. In this workshop you will learn how to navigate subspace; that beautiful dream-like state which, paradoxically, can be hyper-aware. When a Rigger or Top is able to craft an experience and create a space in which their rope partner feels safe and held enough to journey through and plumb the depths of their own being. The body/brain releases its own delicious cocktail of chemicals, senses are heightened and the ceaseless chatter of monkey mind momentarily ceases; the ropes sculpt their own form of satori. Shibari; somewhere afloat in the folds of this wordless communion the sacrosanct exchange of power and trust- the most precious of gifts, the most sacred of offerings… Each in deep servitude of the other connected by umbilical jute. . “Open Your Mouth” 🪢: @shanethebodywhisperer 🐰: @bonfirepyre 📸: @nexus8photography As someone who identified as a Riot Grrrl during my formative years - a badass with an electric guitar and a “smash the patriarchy” sensibility - I’ve always been a staunch feminist. Therefore I’d be lying if I didn’t say I experienced some cognitive dissonance when I first entered the realms of k!nk, particularly Rope & BD$M play. I enjoyed it, which made me feel guilty. Was I unwittingly betraying all the women who came before me; undoing all the hard won gains in gender equality? Was I betraying myself and my own history and experience of gendered violence and inequality? The words “Yes Master” stuck in my throat. Despite my confounded intellectualising, I found myself taking pleasure in this kind of play on a deeply somatic level; and therein lay the disconnect, my mind and body were yet again out of alignment. However I was learning to trust the innate wisdom of my body; for many years I had spent inside my head and in books and philosophical conundrums, meditation, self-enquiry & shadow work; neglecting to be in my body, and my new path back to embodiment was to turn that on its head in an attempt to rebalance the scales. The more I journeyed with conscious k!nk, merging it with Tantric teachings, the more I discovered that in the role of a sub, I hold all the power, and my partner with the huge responsibilities of the Dom role is in full service to me. He creates a safe container using the boundaries of my consent as it’s parameter, in which I am able to let go and fully surrender. Hyper-vigilantly managing my safety, my enjoyment, my pleasure, in every moment. And I’m keenly aware I can pull the plug at any time, for any reason. My body is worshipped by him as the divine vessel it is. Because the body can only feel maximum amounts of pleasure when it feels maximum amounts of safe. (Continued in comments)
